With locations in Rockville and Towson and serving the residents of Alexandria, Potomac, Columbia, Bethesda, and the surrounding communities, Dr. John Kiely is helping his patients understand the treatments for hair restoration.
The following are before and after pictures of some of the procedures:
Currently, more than 56 million men and women in the U.S. are experiencing some form of hair loss. In fact, at just 35 years old, more than 40% of all men have experienced some level of hair loss, and by age 60 this number skyrockets to 65%.
By and large, the most common cause of hair loss for men is male pattern baldness, and likewise for women, female pattern baldness. Both of these conditions are characterized by hair loss that follows a specific pattern, which generally begins near the temples and/or mid-anterior areas of your scalp, and which then becomes progressively thinner over time.
Male pattern baldness is attributed to the presence of Dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a byproduct of testosterone that is known to shrink hair follicles. In other words, when hair follicles are exposed to DHT over an extended period of time, they shrink and begin producing thinner hair. In fact, after these follicles have been exposed to DHT long enough, they can actually cease producing hair altogether.
Similar to men,the most common causes for hair loss in women are hormone-related and include changes in the level of androgens (male hormones), especially after menopause. In addition, pregnancy, surgery, or major illnesses can increase hair loss as well.
To combat hair loss, Dr. Kiely offers hair restoration procedures to Baltimore, MD, residents as well as the surrounding areas including Rockville and Towson.
